We have put together 5 tips that we believe are interesting for you to consider in your choice.
1. Space
Space permitting, it is ideal to allow pathways within kitchen spaces to be at least 36 inches wide. Movement within the cooking zone area should be 42 inches wide for a 1 cook kitchen and 48 inches wide for 2 cook area. Don’t forget the space you will lose if you need to factor in a kitchen island.
2. Correct height for the Microwave
Make sure you consider where you would like to site your Microwave and at the most convenient height for your frequent kitchen users. For adults, it is usually 15 inches above your counter top level. If young children are able to use the microwave, you need to set it below the countertop which may be safer.
3. Split Level Countertops
Have you ever considered a split level countertop? If you enjoy preparing and cooking meals you will need to ensure that you have sufficient countertop space between the cooker and the sink. For those families with young children who also enjoy cooking and baking, incorporating two countertop heights ensures that they can join in the fun and prepare meals with you.
4. Storing sharp knives
Sharp knives are extremely useful in the kitchen. However, they can also be very dangerous when there are small children about. By hanging knives on a magnetic strip on the back splash you will keep them altogether in one place, they are immediately visible and out of reach of little hands.
5. Message Notice Board
With the Kitchen being a very important family area, it is a good idea to include a Message Notice Board on a prominent wall. This can take the form of a bulletin board, chalkboard or even a whiteboard on the wall. In fact you can make it a feature chalkboard wall which will ensure that all the family are kept up to date!
